New York May 09

I obviously loooove New York since I keep coming back every chance I get. I again went to the MoMa to check if the Starry Night is back. Unfortunately, it's still on loan! Well, another visit perhaps. The pictures from MoMa were taken by Joseph Laban (thanks Joseph!).

Most of the other pictures here were taken on board a double decker bus. My friend's mom wanted to experience being a tourist for a day (although she's lived in NYC for over 18 years) so we hopped on a bus and took the downtown tour :)

Or something similar to that yung title? This was one of the artworks that shocked the precepts of what art was. Ethel, you are so lucky talaga!

  13. Oh yes it is! The frame next to it is a mirror. I am not sure if she intended for people to see themselves in the mirror and feel like they had their portrait too. But that's what most people seem to be doing. Ang cool no?

  15. This is Henri Matisse's The Dance (I). Kakatuwa kasi ang lalaki ng mga artworks and unlike most museums, you're allowed to take pictures in most galleries!

  16. ay oo nga! Matisse! sana makapunta rin ako diyan :-)

US in terms of floor area. Like most buildings in Times Square super marami rin syang ilaw!

  22. Believe it or not, first time ko nakita in person ang building na yan hehehe

  23. what I love about this are the opposing yet complimentary lines and how the red jumps out at you!

  24. i took a picture of this kasi mukhang naiiba siya sa mga katabing buildings niya... it's like an old building in the midst of the new ones!

When you're on the bus, there's really not much you can do but look and take pictures. Sayang nga it was very cloudy that day kaya dull ang mga photos.

  26. naku, I dont even remember! The tour was about two hours and we went around some famous places in Manhattan. The guide pointed out places like where celebrities lived, the "apartment" of Carrie in Sex in the City, window where Demi Moore spoke to Whoopi Goldberg when Patrick Swayzee asked her to, and other hollywood tidbits. I wish there were more historical info, but I guess regular tourists are not that interested in those :)

  27. Di ko alam kasi wala info provided. Pero natuwa ako sa details! I suspect na moulded ito rather than carved.

According to our tour guide, back in the days pwede daw mag-order ng mga facade ng buildings and have the old one taken down and the new one installed in a matter of weeks. So pag bored na sila sa facade nila, they'd order a new one! I think she said na nirerecycle din yung mga facade- I cannot remember how though.

  30. I am not sure kung nag-update ng lighting ang MoMa kasi yung mga pictures ko with these art works noon eh ang didilim (see my other album entitle scrap book). Or both. Plus ang kumuha ng pictures eh award-winning journalist who use to be part of Probe! A fellow Fulbrighter taking his Master's in film documentaries (?) at NYU. Saka hi-tech rin camera niya syempre!

  31. Well baka gusto mo magpresent ng paper? Sa Sept ata deadline. Fellowships will probably be opened by end of the year. I will remind you since I plan to apply rin.

  33. meron naman dati di ba? Kaya lang unfortunately some public officials put more value on malls than historic buildings!

  34. winner na tour!!! this is your second time there, di ba, pero first time to tour? That is for you to find out haha!

  35. Yes, second visit this year. Although I was in and our of NYC for over five months seven years ago, I never really did a "tour" that most visitors in NYC would do. I was mostly interested in seeing museums kasi hehehe. Kaya nga it's really nice to revisit and see another side of NYC everytime I go there Pero syempre may mga binabalikbalikan.

I think I will apply for an internship in summer 2010 in NYC. I still don't know which museum, I still have half a year to think about it naman :)

We went the day after Moe's baby shower. And you're right I didn't use to like his work kasi nga masyadong weird (eh surrealist kasi) but after going to the museum- I came to respect him as an artist. Malalim ang kanyang works!
