My boss (the Museum Studies program Director who I report to for my Graduate Assistanship) asked me to put together a newsletter for Museum Studies alumni. He gave me the freedom to conceptualize the format, contents, layout etc.
Here are the sort-of hilarious results of my attempt at artistry.
1) The wedding invitation look:

2) The kinda somber look:

3) The Spring look (Hmmm maybe i should reserve this for next year):

4) And finally, the really somber look ( the one without the leaves- I wanted to use other images but being mindful of copyright issues, I could only use images I have taken myself):

So, what do you think - should I already waive the white flag and get a pro to do this?
Wow Ethelee! ang gaganda! My vote goes to the "kinda somber look" for the colors and the "really somber look" for overall design! Ang galing! :-) What program did you use?
ReplyDeleteThanks wikee. We shall see what my boss thinks.
ReplyDeleteI only used ppt- tried using other graphic design software like corel or adobe but I felt that they will complicate things. I only need a template then build pages with the same lay-out. Ppt allows users to create a master template (for cover and inside pages) and automatically the design is embedded in the pages you will add. If I used adobe or corel, I may have to cut and paste the design elements for every page I create. Ppt does have limitations but it works fine for my purpose.
Btw, this is a technique I learned from short stint at DHL - who would have thought that I could put to use in Museum Studies things I learned from a forwarding company! Part of my tasks was putting together an e-newsletter for DHL Asia Pacific every single week!!! So I kinda got the hang of using ppt and adobe professional.
My vote is for the last one, "the really somber look".
ReplyDeletewow, looks like no one loves my leaves :( hahaha
ReplyDeletethe leaves are beautiful, not just for the site... hahahaha... everyone is a critic, no?
ReplyDeleteTrue, hindi bagay, ipagpilitan ba kasi? But I appreciate your feedback and I will look at them as constructive criticism - much needed especially since I am too involved in the project to be objective.
ReplyDeleteey, di ka na natutulog!!!
ReplyDeleteRealizations about Museum Education and issues in our society keep me up all night- kunish! hahaha. Natutulog naman ako for a couple of hours every night. I am still resisting the notion of having coffee as my BFF so I try to get enough sleep whenever I can.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ricky's observation maybe a different image perhaps that could change depending on the season, month or a hint about the current issue / topic in the newsletter.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was aiming for that- a different image per issue. But it will be challenging to look for appropriate images everytime - I might have to take the photos myself. hay.
