Joanne's cultural enrichment day :)

Visiting museums is always on my itinerary whenever I go places. Although I have been to museums in New York countless number of times, I keep going back for more. There's always something new to see or discover in every visit!

My plan for the day was take care of a few errands then visit at least two museums. Much to my surprise, Joanne agreed to come! And no, I did not have to threaten her with bodily harm or bribe her to go with me. I guess it doesn't hurt that I (plus one) get free admission to museums.

Fist stop was IIE office to ask for free theater tickets. Since the IIE office is right across the UN HQ, we decided to swing by and check it out too.

After taking care of our errands, we decided to go to the Guggenheim. It was a bit cold that day. And since there were long lines to go in it took about 20 minutes before we were able to enter. They had this amazing show on Kandisnky!

We headed out after we finished enjoying the exhibit and taking numerous pictures of the gorgeous architectural design by Frank Lloyd Wright.

It was still too early for the dinner I had with a few Fulbrighters so I asked if she was interested in seeing the MET, which was but a few meters from the Guggenheim. She agreed so off we went to the Met.

We still had a lot of time before dinner so when the Met closed we decided to see the parols (Christmas lanterns) displayed at the Philippine Consulate along 5th Avenue.

MoMA December 2009

After multiple trips to MoMa (starting from 2001), I finally saw my fave artwork at its "home" :)

Had to go to Chicago just to see this in 2002 since it was on loan to the Art Institute for the Van Gogh and Gaugin exhibit. Also had no luck during my two trips to NYC last year since it was always out on loan to other museums.

Convinced (or dragged?!?) my friends to go and see the Tim Burton exhibit at MoMa while we were in NYC last Christmas.

It was a good show but there were just so many people! As a museum professional, I am super happy that there were tons of people at the museum. But as a visitor, it was rather annoying because I could hardly see the works or spend time appreciating them!
