Sledgehammer

FB status (11am)

Grieving for my dead laptop... RIP April 23, 2009, 800pm. Died after I spent 10 hours writing my final psych exam due yesterday and 14 hours on my exhibition project. It's true what they say about death- it comes when you least expect it.

FB status (130 pm)

my laptop just got resurrected!!!

I went over to the UF IT help desk to see if they could retrieve my files (or those from the last 24 hours). But my hard disk cannot be read and later on neither can it be recognized by the computer!

I broke the news to my group mates in the exhibition course im taking ( we are working on a group proposal so my laptop problem affects them too). I told them that I will redo all the work that I lost all weekend since we were given an extension to submit until Monday. They recommended that I still swing buy best buy to purchase an AC adapter - I suspected that was the problem but it was too late last night to go to best buy and get a replacement. And since my hard disk can no longer be read, figured pointless to go to best buy.

So I gave it one last try. And voila! Apparently, there are universal laptop adapters- thank God for the brilliant person who thought of it. And now it's working- with all my files intact!!!

Woohooo! I don't have to rewrite my psych exam!!!

I should probably get a new laptop. Its been dropping hints about all year about wanting to retire. But I cannot afford to buy a new one yet, so I just ignored them.

half a dozen pairs of shoes...

It has only been eight months since I started graduate school and yet I have already bought six pairs of shoes!!! I have a pair of nike running shoes- and I don't go running! My best find, so far, is a pair of ballet flats for less than $9. Add in those that I brought from back home, which makes it 16 pairs of flip flops, sandals and shoes.

I always thought that I buy shoes whenever I am depressed. Last week I bought two pairs. Hmmm. I cannot help but wonder what this means about my state of mind? I am convincing my self that these are really just lovely, irresistible and must-have shoes.

It's just one week before the semester ends. I'm stressed and melancholic. I am writing a blog at 230am instead of sleeping, or doing my three million course requirements. Three more end of semesters I have to deal with before I'm done. I might just end up with a balikbayan-full of shoes when this is all over.

Depressed or not, wouldn't you buy these cuties too?

Harn Museum, Florida Museum host annual Earth Day celebration April 18

Press Release from Harn Museum

The Harn Museum of Art and Florida Museum of Natural History are joining together once again to celebrate Earth Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 18. The free event features crafts, painting demonstrations, live music, a dance performance, educational presentations and organic food.

The Harn Museum of Art is offering a number of programming opportunities, including an informative lecture at 11:30 a.m. about how to make your household energy efficient.

At 12:30 p.m., Tom Southall, curator of photography, will give a gallery talk about “Landscape Perspectives: Highlights from the Photography Collection,” discussing the beauty of the natural world and aspects of human interactions with the land.

Both museums are offering art opportunities for visitors. At the Florida Museum, visitors can create CD clocks and fashion recycled accessories such as newspaper hats and paper tube bracelets. Guest artist Peter Carolin will be plein air painting outside the Harn Museum of Art as part of the museum’s Family Day. Visitors can paint with him, make jewelry with recycled-paper beads or create nature rubbings.

The afternoon will also feature artistic performances by two local groups. At 1:30 p.m. the Kanapaha Celtic Trio will engage visitors with a musical performance. Dancers from the 5.6.7.8. Dance Studio will perform at 2 p.m.

Visitors who want to get outside and enjoy nature can participate in tours of the University of Florida Natural Area Teaching Laboratory, an outdoor space behind the Florida Museum dedicated to ecology education. Tours are available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will begin in the courtyard between the two museums.

Local environmental organizations also will present information at both museums on living a sustainable lifestyle and taking active steps to protect the environment. The Harn Museum and the Florida Museum of Natural History are also partnering with other University of Florida units, such as the Office of Sustainability and the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, to provide environmental information to visitors.

Visitors may purchase organic food from the Jones Eastside Eatery at the Florida Museum of Natural History.

Admission is free. For more information about the Earth Day events, visit www.harn.ufl.edu or www.flmnh.ufl.edu.
